Paths to Success in Pageantry

JC woman’s success continues in Miss Missouri pageant

Katie Farr, a Jefferson City woman, is 2-for-2 on her path toward the Miss Missouri crown.

On Thursday, for the second night in a row, she won a preliminary round of the Miss Missouri Scholarship Competition on the campus of Missouri Military Academy in Mexico. She also took top honors Wednesday.

Farr, Miss Springfield Route 66, won the talent competition Thursday night with a vocal performance of “Somewhere.” A Helias Catholic High School graduate and Missouri State University student, she received a $500 scholarship for the win.

The previous night’s win came from her on-stage conversation skills and evening gown look, garnering her a $300 scholarship.

A total of 21 women are competing to represent Missouri on the Miss America stage. They were divided into two competition groups earlier in the week. While one group competes in on-stage conversation skills and evening gown look, the other competes in talent.

Judges also selected Miss Boone County Grayson Barnes as a rookie talent award winner for her lyrical dance. She received a $250 scholarship for the win Thursday. Judges selected Miss Kansas City Grayson Barnes as Thursday’s preliminary evening gown winner. She receives a $300 scholarship for the win.

The competition continues until Miss Missouri is crowned Saturday night. The winner then prepares for the national Miss America competition.
